In my opinion, the above photostory is a lackluster example of a layout for an article that could use significant reorganization.
To start off, the title is not capitalized, which looks lazy to me. The words 'sweat' and 'gears' should be capitalized along with 'Blood.'
Immediately below the title, there is a huge wall of text that looks intimidating to any reader. This copy needs to either be significantly reduced, or divided among the entirety of the page.
In addition, the photos themselves are arranged in a manner that very little room is left for captions. While the spacing appears to be equal on all the photos, the captions should not be clumped together like they are in this article. The captions need to be neighboring their respective images.
Major changes are needed here in order to make a quality article. In conclusion, this photostory appears very dull, unimaginative, and lacks necessary organization.
Contrasting to the first photostory, I believe that the above pictured article has a much better layout and is arranged in a way that is more pleasing to the reader's eye.
First off, the title is an attention-grabbing line. The title is leading the reader into the article in order to clarify what can be worse than being blind.
Unlike the preceding article, there is not too much text in this story. Along with the images, 3 distinct eye lines are formed to show the reader which order to view each image in. The captions are also adjacent to their corresponding images.
The 1 issue I do have with this photostory is the large amount of white space in the upper right corner. While any photostory must have white space in order to allow the reader to 'breathe,' too much blank area is a problem. What I would do to remedy this issue is make the upper right picture slightly larger, and adjust the textboxes so the space is minimized.
