For my meme, I incorporated the winner of the recent Daytona 500, Austin Dillon, along with a ghosted mask of Dale Earnhardt Sr. 20 years ago, Dale Earnhardt took car number 3 to victory lane in the 1998 Daytona 500, a race that he had failed to win for 20 years. 20 years after that historic win, Austin Dillon, grandson of Earnhardt's longtime car owner Richard Childress, took the 3 back to the Daytona 500 victory lane.   To create this meme, I took a picture of Dale Sr. and masked out the background. Using the Quick Selection Tool in Photoshop, I selected the picture of Dale, and transposed it into a picture of Austin celebrating. I then added top and bottom text to the photo with text boxes. The original photos as well as the final product can be seen below.

In this week's blog post, we were told to photograph something with a variety of contrasting colors, and use those colors to create swatches of different hues and nameplates in inDesign. For my subject, I chose to photograph Dale Earnhardt's racecar from the 2000 NASCAR All-Star Race. This car is on display at the Richard Childress Racing Museum in Welcome, North Carolina. I chose to photograph this car in particular because of the many colors on its paint scheme. For my color swatches, I chose the majenta, orange, and green colors found in the racecar's paint scheme. I then adjusted the amount of whiteness in their hues to 50% and to 25%. For the name plates, I inserted my name, and my title at the NASCAR news website I write for. For each element, I used a differing color from the swatch that came from the original picture of the racecar. This is just a small sampling of the many ways different colors can be found on inDesign, I hope you enjoyed this post! Race...

Peter Stratta's Brochure Writing Blog Limiting Fonts The tri-fold brochure I found is one detailing aquariums in North Carolina. The differing font styles on this brochure are very appealing to the reader's eye. The main font style is a soft, ocean-colored design that is attracting and draws the viewers in to the photo. The main topic of this brochure is aquariums, and the word 'aquarium' is front and center on the cover, in the largest font. The colored text on the cover complements the photo, since it is a bluish hue.  Limiting Colors As aforementioned,  this brochure has many different text colors. These include either white, robins egg-blue, and aquamarine. These colors are very inviting to the reader, and are appropriate considering the subject matter. The background color is a deeper blue/purple, emulating a deep sea effect. Contrast This brochure's visual contrast is very well done. Just simply on the cover, the dark blue background really ma...

In my opinion, the above photostory is a lackluster example of a layout for an article that could use significant reorganization.  To start off, the title is not capitalized, which looks lazy to me. The words 'sweat' and 'gears' should be capitalized along with 'Blood.'  Immediately below the title, there is a huge wall of text that looks intimidating to any reader. This copy needs to either be significantly reduced, or divided among the entirety of the page.  In addition, the photos themselves are arranged in a manner that very little room is left for captions. While the spacing appears to be equal on all the photos, the captions should not be clumped together like they are in this article. The captions need to be neighboring their respective images.  Major changes are needed here in order to make a quality article. In conclusion, this photostory appears very dull, unimaginative, and lacks necessary organization.  Contrasting to the first...

For my first picture I have Dale Earnhardt Jr talking to some people, however there is a kid looking at the camera. The main subject matter is in fact Earnhardt Jr, but the kid is a distracting element. Therefore, I cropped the kid out of the image, and then using a layer on Photoshop I drew over Jr and increased his brightness. He now stands out more pronounced from the background and other people in the image. Original image was taken by me at the NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

For this blog post, I was unsure about what exactly I should photograph to depict various aesthetics. While walking through The Point, the idea came to me to have the shuffleboard table as my subject matter. I did my best to capture a variety of photogenic aesthetic elements from the shuffleboard table. I was able to express lines, rule of thirds, depth, detail, and viewpoint.  Lines In this shot, my thought process was to utilize the long, wooden vertical lines on the table's playing surface to draw the viewer's eye to the 4, which is the intended focal point. If the lighting was increased, I would have attempted to focus on the other numbers to provide another line.  Rule of Thirds In this shot I was attempting to adhere to a vertical rule of thirds with the playing surface and the edge of the table. I guess you could say this picture also has a depth perception with the playing pieces in the foreground as well as in the distant background. My one issue with...

Hello and welcome to my blog for my Communications 1113 class! I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy writing it, and I hope to be able to know many of you as well! Some Background Information on Who I Am My name is Peter Stratta, and I am a freshman at High Point University. I live in nearby Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and I am a journalism major. I was born on July 4, 1998, and have lived in Winston-Salem since I was 3. What are my interests? I have always had a deep passion for reading, especially history books. Over the recent Christmas break, I was able to start and finish 3 books! My passion for history is eerily similar to my paternal grandfather's love for history, as I am particularly fascinated by American History and the story of our great nation. In addition to my love for reading, I have a passion for writing as well. My dad is a well accomplished surgeon and published author, so I like to think that I inherited some of his writing genes. Other t...
